Concussions are a growing concern in sports and health care today and managing them effectively is crucial for a full recovery. Recovery may look different for each person’s goals, but it’s important to support return to work or school, and return to sport for athletes. Chiropractors are among the healthcare professionals that can assess, diagnose and manage your concussion recovery.

Let’s discuss what a concussion is and how it can impact the brain and body. A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. It may be caused by a direct impact to the head or can be caused by an impact to the neck or body that results in those forces translated to the brain.

Concussions can significantly impact your daily life with a wide range of possible symptoms. Symptoms can be categorized into four categories: physical, cognitive, emotional and sleep. Someone who has suffered from concussion may experience any of the following: headaches, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light, difficulty concentrating, feeling in a “fog, feeling sad or nervous, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

Dr. Courtney, one of our chiropractors here at HealthSpace Collective, has completed a 60-hour course to better support concussion patients at the clinic. She hopes to play a pivotal role in concussion management for the Port Perry community.
