Bioidentical Hormone Replacement and Desiccated Thyroid

At The HealthSpace Co., we are very well-versed in hormone health, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, and desiccated thyroid.

What is BHRT?
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is the use of hormones that are are derived from plant sources (typically yam or soy). These hormones are structurally similar to the hormones your body makes which means that your body is able to easily recognize the hormones and use them.

When should BHRT be considered?
A lot of women with a hormonal imbalance can benefit from BHRT. However, this is not the only option, and we will do testing first and ask several questions to make sure it’s a good fit for you.

Common reasons women start BHRT:
-For balanced mood
-To decrease PMS
-Regulate menstrual periods
-To improve sleep, especially in the peri- and post-menopause stage
-Toecrease vaginal dryness and thinning
-Improve hot flashes and night sweats
-For low libido
-For cognitive decline

Is BHRT safe?
Hormone replacement therapy has come a long way! The conversation about the benefits and risks is one that you and your practitioner will have together during a consultation when figuring out if BHRT is right for you.

We only use creams or suppositories for our progesterone and estrogen, and we never use estrogen without progesterone to ensure that you don’t have unopposed estrogen that is too high. We also use bioidentical form of the hormones (vs. synthetic versions), which we know are associated with lower risks of breast cancer and cardiovascular issues than the conventional HRT.

What to expect:
Thorough investigation into your health history, family history, and lab testing to determine if BHRT is right for you. Once you start your BHRT prescription, expect to have follow up blood work every 6 months to ensure we are using the right dosage for you.
